Hi friends,
I would never say I was organised, though in recent years I felt lost.
It’s a familiar feeling, having to rebuild life again: I have done it before. More big life changes came in quick succession lately. I lost my therapy work to long Covid, which still undermines my health, energy and mind power. This work took 7 years training, and total dedication. It gave me meaning and joy. And it has gone. I am still adjusting to my changed body.
My daughter is now tentatively waiting to move on to Uni, a happy change. (Her teacher pulled me aside at an end of year event yesterday to say how proud I must be. She’s bright, kind, intelligent, considerate, and will go far, he said. My work is done!)
My uncertainty of where I might live after all this, as I am far from family and my roots, and heading into my aging years bubbles away. I face declining sales in my jewellery business due to cost of living and algorithm changes, and not having the capacity to attend fairs and markets or run workshops as I once did, for the last four years.
All this fuelled by perimenopausal hormone fluctuations, jumbling it all up like a tombola.
How do you cope with change?
Substack has been a joyful disrupter, a ray of light that brought meaning and purpose back to me. That I might repair the aching sense of loss of the work I once did as a regular therapist. You, my dear subscribers, give me the confidence to translate what I know, and write. It’s a pleasure to write for you. The sweetest exhaustion!
I have to work to stop myself feeling lost in all these ongoing changes, and panning out to a wider sense of existence is strangely comforting.
Standing in the post office queue wondering why all these things happened to me and not to someone else, I can forget the beauty of our existence on this big rock.
After the tears, I remember the electric life force the pumps my heart as I do my recycling. When Pepper does a big, funny, noisy stretch, I’ll remember how beautiful life is. I’ll be taken with the thought that our rock home floats around a giant blazing ball of gas high in the sky. A blazing ball so powerful and magical that we have life on earth.
We have life!
Even if our lives are a different shape to what our psyche was built for, or what our dreams once pictured. Our unwealdy, messy, and hard to manage lives are our own. We have life!
Writing for You
So I’m here using much of my existence spending time writing for you on Substack. Why?
Self awareness changes lives.
Self acceptance is essential if we are to survive.
Living from autonomy is our rudder through the waves.
When we nurture our souls we let our light shine.
If my work changes one persons life for the better in some small way, I’ll take that!

What are you proud of at this turning point? I am proud of my substack right now. And my beautiful daughter as she steps out into the world.
I connect with what you have shared here very much, nearly too much to actually put into words as the pain of it all makes me feel like I’m underwater where it is impossible to breathe. It is good to know that we are not alone in our struggle and I thank you dearly for this reminder.
